In this week’s podcast Katie and I take a look at ourselves as we talk about self-awareness. We define what it is and what it isn’t. Typically when we talk about self-awareness this is in relation to emotional intelligence and emotional regulation. It is also talked about from a perspective of basically, not being a jerk. That’s important but not very inspiring. Emotional intelligence is a great place to start in our awareness of course. Our emotional states not only impact us but as we now know, emotions are contagious. Therefore, our emotional states also impact others. But what about our strengths?
We bring another part of self-awareness into the conversation which is knowing when we are at our best. What strengths do we have that can elevate ourselves and allow us to make our best contributions to those that we lead. Focusing on our strengths is even more important than attempting to improve our weaknesses. And this is just as critical a component included in self-awareness.
